How Would You Like to Grow in Holiness and Change the World?

World Apostolate of Fatima Prayer Cell (Cell Hour of Holiness) is a weekly spiritual gathering for small group prayer before the Blessed Sacrament or in a home. Members endeavor to grow in holiness by responding to Our Lady of Fatima's requests for prayer, penance and sacrifice in a spirit of reparation.

The Imperative to Pray

God has always required perseverance in prayer from the faithful in the Old and New Testaments (Sir. 17:24;18:22; Luke 21:36; Rom. 12:12; Eph. 6:18; Col. 4:2; 1 Thess. 17 and 1 Peter 4:7). At Fatima, the angel and the Blessed Virgin reinforced to the children and all Christians the scriptural imperative to remain constant in prayer. Participating in a Fatima Prayer Cell is an excellent means of putting these healthy spiritual admonitions into practice in our lives.

Origin

It may be said that the first prayer cell started with Our Lady and the three children at Fatima. During her six apparitions at Fatima in 1917, Our Lady and the children prayed together.

Why are They Called Cells?

Just as the cells in a body divide and grow, a prayer group should do the same after there are between eight and ten members. Part of the group splits and forms a new prayer cell. By participating in a World Apostolate of Fatima Prayer Cell, members experience the joy of weekly meetings for prayer, to discuss Our Lady's message and to experience her "presence." The prayer cell offers the joy of holy friendships, of praying together and helping each other to respond to Our Lady as did the children of Fatima.

How May I Join?

If there is an established World Apostolate of Fatima Prayer Cell in your parish or in a nearby home, you can join it. If not, please contact your diocesan division of the World Apostolate of Fatima and inquire about the location of prayer cells in your diocese. If a diocesan division does not exist, contact the national center. Interest others in participating in a prayer cell. By all means approach your pastor, show him the ten-point program and explain your reason for wanting to pray in a group. If you cannot obtain permission to meet in a church, begin a prayer cell in your home. Just one or two more with you is sufficient to form, a prayer cell.

What Program Do We Follow?

We follow a ten-point program of prayer, based on the sprirual exercises of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, which includes the Rosary and the prayers taught by Our Lady and the Angel of Peace at Fatima:

Opening Prayer

1. Eucharistic Prayer and Angel's Prayer

2. World Apostolate of Fatima Pledge

3. Meditative Rosary

4. Pardon Prayer

5. Motivation Report (prayer petitions)

6. Invocations to Our Lady of Fatima Patrons

7. Spiritual Readings:

  • The Message of Fatima - Lucia Speaks: one apparition at each meeting for beginners
  • Fatima in Lucia's Own Words (Sister Lucia's memiors)
  • Articles from Soul Magazine
  • An approved catechism

8. Examination by cell members ( report on previous week's resolutions)
